CANADIAN CONNECTION 2007

TANZANITE CONNECTION

Dear Members & Friends

Betty & I would like to share some photographs taken during our short visit to Toronto Canada mainly for the Tanzanite 25th Anniversary 2007. What a memorable time we have had meeting up with many of our Zanzibar folks and others.

During our 7 days stay, it has been an action packed week with non-stop parties. The hospitality and friendship we have enjoyed in Toronto Canada will remain with us for a long time and Canada has now become a trade mark in our future ventures which now makes it Zanzibar, Goa and Canada.

Please click on the links below to view the various activities enjoyed during our stay.
To all those we have met has brought love and friendship closer.

Meeting up with the American Connection – JO and Co was wonderful to include Fatima who came all the way from Vancouver. Fatima certainly made us laugh as always, and thanks for treating us all the wonderful lunch party. Your singing at John & Rolina’s home was also a good treat.

JO, I certainly share your good advice you have given and am now back home planning to take a good long break with plenty of swimming and walking. As you have seen I am over 2 stones overweight, I will keep away from the Computer and Internet for a time. What a wonderful time meeting up with you and not before long, we will meet up again.

P.S. I know I should not be releasing all this information on our SJCS Zanzibar website as it is not all to do with SJCSZ members, but as many of us met up, I have chosen to use our site as a Gateway to share photos with our members so they can see some of their friends and equally allow others to view photos via the SJCS Zanzibar Daily mail blog open to all.

Love and best wishes

TANZANITE 25th Anniversary 2007

Dear Members

The Greatest Show on Earth – “Tanzanite 25th Anniversary 2007”

Betty and I have just returned from The Greatest Show on Earth – “Tanzanite 25thAnniversary 2007” It is now 2.30 am Sunday 7th October and I do not have time to give you fulldetails of the fabulous dinner dance we have attended, other than tell you that the Mendes Enterprising family in Toronto Canada do us all Zanzibari’s proud.

Several years ago I attended the 1st Tanzanite Reunion in Toronto organised byPop and Artie Mendes and to this date I have said it was the very best and therecould never be another better.I am proud to say that our young enterprising President Arnold Mendes and hisorganising committee have produced the Greatest Show on Earth with a record of 870 Tanzanite’s who have attended the function which was top class.

Fabulous dance band provided top class music all night plus a DJ who added tothe entertainment. Good venue, great cabaret, with superb food followed by a hot midnight buffet.

All those who were fortunate to attend have been privileged to enjoy a dream night and once again all I can say is CONGRATULATIONS to ArnoldMendes and his great team.

Hopefully you will see hundreds of professional photographs & video of this great events taken by Brendan Abreu and Arnold but for now my posting is just meeting up with other good friends from Zanzibar. GUESS WHO when you have a moment.

Tanzanite Organisation Toronto Canada rule ok. Keep it up and we will be back with you all next year to celebrate.

Benny & Betty from the Holiday Inn Toronto CanadaSunday, October 7th 2.40am 2007.

Morning at Home after the Dance October 7th 2007
Mass at noon followed by social

Dear Members Sunday morning - another fabulous party. Let the pictures tell the story as there is too much to say. Enjoy some of the action at this great social.

I cannot fail to mention some of the wonderful talent we were privileged to enjoy of a young family entertaining. Lead singer just a little young kid you will see on stage wearing a red shirt. I predict he will be a great success in the music world in the future. Sorry I cannot remember names as they were new to me but I certainly wish them all the very best in the future.

All the musicians who took part at the Jam Session were great and it was a pleasure listening and dancing to their music.

Cannot fail to mention the lovely presentation made by Merwyn & Pervin Nunes to Pop & Artie. A wonderful photograph of Zanzibar. What a lovely gift to our legend Pop & Artie.

Best wishes to one and all who attended and especially to Arnold and Co.

Look forward to joining all folks in Toronto Canada next year.

Love - Benny & Betty

Dear Dima

Thank you for your kind message re "Welcome drink" and on behalf of our SJCS Goa Reunion managing committee, I wish to thank you and Marriott management for kindly offering our members a Complimentary drink on arrival. This will be a real treat as we have invited our guests to arrive early to watch the fantastic sunset as recommended by you.

By the way, our committee have also agreed to include a good cabaret act on the night. Appreciate if you can provide any suggestions.

I was very impressed with the Rope Dances and their dancing routines which I was fortunate to see at the BMX events early this year. Any good suggestions welcome and equally if you could provide the charges as a guideline.

Once again please accept our grateful thanks and without any doubt, we are all looking forward to meeting up and celebrating taking note that our main highlight event is the Grand Gala Dance at the Marriott Hotel.

Yours sincerely

Benny - You have done us proud. Thanks for securing this wonderful starter to our dinner/dance, which will be most appreciated. Let's hope we can get a good cabaret act to further improve our main event.

SJCS ZANZIBAR SOUVENIR BOOKLET

Dear SJCS Members

(Please note this posting has been released after obtaining permission from Janet Fernandes).

As we all know, we have had a few good high profile SPORTSMEN in ZANZIBAR and amongst one of the very best was the late Tommy Fernandes who was an all-round champion right from sprinting, football, hockey and cricket.

We all know how famous Tommy was with his great SOGAS (jokes) and as such we would love to add some of his jokes in the Souvenir booklet plus some of his sporting photographs.

Dear members, if you remember some of Tommy’s Sogas, please oblige and forward to Joe de Lord. Also if you have photographs, please forward ASAP.

Some of us Cable & Wireless guys have some real sweet memories so all you guys we look forward to your contribution.

Janet says, in some cases we should not use names of parties connected to the jokes. This we will honoured.

Another name that stands out is our famous GOALKEEPER who represented Zanzibar on several occasions. He does not need any introduction but for sure we can remember one of the wonderful Goalie’s dive which was spectacular - a touch of DELAYED ACTION. Dived after the ball went into the net. (If Agnel was in London, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea would be fighting to sign him on).

The sensational photograph was in the newspapers – only wish we had a copy so if any of you have some photographs of our champion goalie AGNEL DE SILVA, please forward to Joe De Lord. Agnel was also a very good hockey player so all photos appreciated.

Let’s not miss out on the good Sports Ladies so all postings welcome as we want a sports column in the Souvenir booklet.

P.S. Just a few weeks ago I met up with Janet at Tony and Shirley de Lords home and you will never believe this. Janet entertained us with some great jokes where I was in stitches. I never laughed so much, and talk of Tommy’s jokes, Janet could fall in line. All good sogas (jokes) welcome especially those connected with Tommy Fernandes our all-round sportsman.

Folks – Do not miss out with your personal posting for the Souvenir.

Many thanks.

Benito
